WITNESS AND JUSTICE COMMISSIONThe members of the Witness and Justice Commission of Plymouth UCC often tell and sometimes live each others’ stories. We try hard to live in ways that match our beliefs and next time we try to do better. We welcome people who are straight, gay, bi, old, young, middle-aged, male, female, Latino, African-American, all ethnicities, indigenous, of all religions, of no religions, who want to build community and bring justice to all. We can’t do everything but we can and must stand in the midst and witness for our beliefs. We help each other to address our fears and break down the distractions that keep us from beginning anew. We try to tear down barriers that keep us from loving one another with open, generous, loving hearts. Commission members sometimes organize group short and long-term efforts and sometimes pursue individual efforts. All Witness and Justice Commission actions overlap and intertwine and include areas such as: EnvironmentWe maintain our activities and facilities in an environmentally sound manner. We use and wash the dishes we have to avoid filling a landfill and exhausting limited resources. We use energy-efficient lamps. We participate in Interfaith Power & Light actions to promote energy-efficient living and climate protection. EconomyWe promote workers’ rights by supporting organized workers and supporting the creation of training and green jobs. EquityWe encourage open discussion and all efforts to dismantle racism, sexism and ageism. Promoting PeaceWe organize and join community efforts to demonstrate efforts to bring peace. We demonstrate to end the death penalty. |
